Just happening: Ronaldo beat Lionel Messi in a prestigious award.. See full details

In the rivalry of the best player on the planet, Real Madrid Christiano Ronaldo has added to his awards after beating Lionel Messi to become the UEFA player of the season for the third time.

Real Madrid hotshot Cristiano Ronaldo has beaten Lionel Messi  to another individual record in the wake of crushing his most despised adversary in the UEFA Men's Player of the Year vote, getting more than three times of the Argentine's count.

The 32-year-old won the renowned honor for the second back to back year, turning into the only player to lift it three times in the process – he initially won it in 2013/14.

The Portuguese has now won one more than FC Barcelona star Lionel Messi, who won the honor in 2010/11 and 2014/15.

In the wake of getting the honor, the Los Blancos star said that he was respected to win the trophy consecutive and expressed gratitude toward his coaches and colleagues.

"I'm so happy to be here, and regarded to win this trophy once more," Ronaldo stated, as indicated by UEFA.com.

"Thank you to my teammates and congratulations to them too. I'm so blessed – thanks also to the supporters of Real Madrid, and everyone who helped me to achieve this trophy."

In the survey, Ronaldo got 482 votes, with Messi getting 141 and Buffon finishing on 109.
